Job Description:

  • Design large scale mechanical and electro-mechanical products and systems using heavy iron and sheet metal fabrication methods to meet product specifications.
  • Provide layout drawings and sketches to Engineering Department personnel for completion of models & detail drawings.
  • Check detail drawings provided by detailers and oversee revisions to drawings as required per established processes.
  • Recommend and implement design changes to equipment so as to reduce manufacturing costs.
  • Recommend and implement design changes as necessary to improve product performance.
  • Inspect equipment prior to shipping to verify proper construction.
  • Work with fabrication shop personnel and foremen as required to train and educate them on proper construction techniques.
  • Work with end users of equipment to resolve complaints and recommend and oversee field repairs as necessary.
  • Provide recommendations to sales people and end users of equipment on modifying existing equipment so as to make possible the upgrading of existing equipment.
  • Travel to plant installations and measure existing equipment and make layout drawings and sketches of proposed modifications to equipment.
  • Supervise other product designers as they perform duties listed above.
  • Consult with equipment and hardware suppliers to select and evaluate performance.
  • Attend seminars to stay current with technological advances and maintain professional engineer status.
  • Utilize software and write programs to aid engineering design.
  • Follow company policies and procedures at all times.
  • Follow proper safety rules and procedures at all times.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Preferred Skills:

  • Minimum of four years Mechanical undergraduate degree or 10 years equivalent experience required for consideration.
  • Mechanics or structural emphasis in curriculum required.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and computer communication skills required.
  • Leadership skills and ability to influence and manage others desired.
  • CAD experience with SolidWorks & AutoCAD desired.
  • Minimum of six years as structural or mechanical engineer in asphalt plant manufacturing organization desired or 10 years in large scale heavy iron machine production industry.
  • Management experience or skills desirable.
  • Must be able to work satisfactorily as a team member.
