PM96 Future Development Memo
January 14, 2009
Dear Valued Customer:
In our effort to meet the demands of our customers and maintain industry leading standards in asphalt plant design and operation, Astec, Inc. is constantly developing new products & features for our broad product line. As part of this process, we are continually replacing older equipment with improved product designs. This course of action allows us to take advantage of the latest technology available to provide enhanced equipment to our customers. As a product moves through its life cycle process, it becomes increasingly difficult to update due to technology advances or changing vendor support requirements.
Seeing that, Astec, Inc. decided in 2005 to begin a redesign of the PM96 to more effectively use the technology of PLC's. The redesigned product is known as the PMII and accomplishes the task of the PM96 and much more. This new PMII uses many of the industry leading TCII software components that greatly enhance the Process Control and Blending portion of an asphalt plant.
As the PMII has gained popularity, it has become one of our main Blending Controls Systems alongside our very popular Total Control System (TCII) for plant wide controls. The PMII is our complete replacement for the PM96 system. The PM96 system was considered a mature product on January 1, 2006 and will no longer be produced.
In its capacity as a mature product, the PM96 will continue to be supported by our field service or technical support personal and we will continue to offer spare parts for this platform until inventory is depleted and parts are no longer available. We anticipate this to be 5 to 7 years at which point the PM96 will be an archived product and will no longer be supported.
You have received this letter because you currently own a PM96 system. Astec, Inc. wants you to have the greatest amount of time to make your decision to upgrade to one of our new and more technologically advanced systems before this system is archived. In conclusion, although the PMII is a direct replacement for the PM96, you or your company may decide to dedicate more resources for a complete plant upgrade to the Total Control System (TCII). Our goal is to ensure our customers have the latest technology available for their asphalt plant system.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause your organization. If you are interested in learning more about Astec products, please contact your local Astec Inc. representative or visit us at www.astecinc.com.
